Kicking off Paris Haute Couture Week, Donatella Versace presented a collection which seemed to take a sharp U-Turn from her regular flashy couture and ready-to-wear creations of sparkly emojis, logo prints, and 80s extravagance. Instead of the sexy show girl she has dressed for decades, this season appealed more to the… festival goer? Coachella seemed to be the destination she had in mind with flowers were in the models waved hair and go-go boots perfect for any dance floor. Freedom and the free spirit was seen as loose lace and strips of chiffon fluttered down the runway and evening dresses, billowy and light, made from hand-painted floral fil coupe did not hesitate to show a bit (or a lot) of skin. Some dresses made of a breath of chiffon were barely held together by delicate strings of flowers. That Woodstock summer of love vibe was also emphasized by the wide bell sleeves and the fact that there seemed not to be an edge which wasn't frayed - the anti-precision of Spring 2015 couture collection. The key show stopping numbers bundled tufts of chiffon on rather scrappy looking asymmetric skirts and leaned towards the idea of perfect imperfection- who cares if your hair isnt perfect anyway? This collection was softer and above all completely deconstructed compared to previous shows. One may ask if this was actually the Versace girl but one must applaud Donatella for trying something new but ultimately the collection was sexy, fierce, and show stopping - qualities the Italian designing legend knows better than anyone.
