Stockholm Fashion Week A/W 1516: An Overview

I argue that Scandinavia is the most fashionable region on Earth... There I said it. I’m sorry Milan, Apologies New York. Consistently- Scandinavia offers us with unique, recognizable design, tailoring, beautifully absurd hems, minimalistic influences, black and white everything. In turn, this has molded an identity exclusive to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Almost everyone on the streets of Stockholm would be fit to appear in a Lookbook, and I am always baffled how easy going yet put together this fashion folk is.Therefore, I was exceptionally pleased to take part in Stockholm Fashion Week to watch Sweden’s best designers interpret Autumn/Winter 2015-2016 first hand. The location was spectacular: at the Berns Hotel and Event center, where chandeliers floated above the catwalk and an opulent fresco blanketed the entire room. I have yet to dine at this fine establishment, but based on reputation I am sure it wont fall short! There were 5 key trends witnessed at Stockholm fashion week and are sure to make their way into everyone’s street style.Mom jeans- We have evolved past the skinny jean. Let us all be open minded and opt for something more poetic and playful like the high waited Mom jeans or casual light washed boyfriend jeans as seen at WhyRed.The Bell Bottoms- Ding, Dong- Bells are ringing into next season! Again, proof that the skinny pant is out. Carin Wester, Filippa K, and Ida Sjöstedt proved that the bell bottom lengthens our legs and slims our waist. The trousers were loose fitting and breezy and are perfect for the office and especially the after party.The Back- While Karl Lagerfeld substituted cleavage for the midriff, Stockholm’s attention is put onto the back. Valerie and House of Dagmar offered lower back cutouts, which is sure to attract attention. Let’s try to not to all try to catch a cold next winter!Glitter- The more sparkle the better. Are the 70’s revival to blame? Should we point the finger at Hedi for his glitter- gogo-disco-tastic S/S 15 collection? Who knows- but Ida Sjöstedt went for the more is more option and is encouraging us to shine- literally. Checks and Hounds- Black and white is very Swedish and it was refreshing to see these monochrome colors coming together. Cheap Monday, House of Dagmar, and Mayla led the revolution for a renewed approach to sans color.Not only was the fashion inspiring, but I found the music also very “feel good”- blame it on the disco glitter, but Ida Sjöstedt’s playlist made me want to stand up and shake a tale feather!
